Profile : District Court Patna
According to the L.S.s.O’ Malleys Bihar & Orrissa District Gazetteers(revised
edition 1924),the new district of Patna came into creation in the year 1825 with
concurrent boundaries for revenue and police purpose consisting of the district
to Patna until 1865. It also reveals that First Magistrate of Patna was Charles
The Patna Judgeship appears to have come into existence between 1757-1783, which
is evident from the fact that a judgment of the year 1783 is available in the District
Judge’s Record Room of Patna Judgeship . The index plan is available in the
Record Room in this regard.
Nalanda (Biharsharif) was Sub-Division under the Patna Judgeship and the same was
created a new Judgeship in the year 1978.
Court Buildings and residential accommodation
There are six separate buildings in the Civil Courts, Patna at Patna Sadar. Within
the campus of one main building, two other buildings situate. One Fast Track Court
Building and two other Buildings situate outside and just in front of the campus
of main building. The total Court room available at Patna Sadar are 51.
There are two Court’s Buildings at Danapur Subdivision,consisting of 12 Court
rooms. There is new Court building at Patna City Sub-division consisting of 14 Court-rooms
and there are two court Building at Barh Sub-division consisting of 13 Court-rooms.
At Masaurrhi Sub-division ,there is no own Court building and the Courts are running
there in the 4-Court rooms provided by the Executive.
In the earlier days,the Civil Courts at Sadar was running in the Building where
presently the Pirbahore Police Station is Situated.
Residential Accommodation for Judicial
There are 41 quarters for judicial officers at Patna Sadar including the residence
of District Judge, Patna and Principal Judge, Family Court, Patna. There are 8,5&
2 quarters for Judicial Officers at Patnacity, Barh and Masaurrhi sub-divisions
Residential Accommodation for Class
III & IV Staffs
There are only 5 quarters for class III employees in mohalla Rajbanshi Nagar of
this town. There is no quarter also for Class III in other Sub-divisions. There
is also no quarter for class IV staffs in any sub/divisions of this Judgeship including
